(My car is a 5 speed.) My car, as well as many others out there have a broken lock-out mechanism, so I can turn it off and pull the key with the car in any gear. I am not going to fix that, as it otherwise works well, the cylinder rotates smoothely, and if it ain't "broke", don't fix it theory applies. I just use a "Club" knock off to jamb the steering. If they want the car, they gotta cut the wheel, get past several seperate kill switches to several different systems, bypass an alarm with yet another seperate kill switch, get past some other stuff I will not make public, and soon get around my burglar alarm with teeth (my dog).
You are correct about a properly functioning 5 speed ignition console locking out in reverse, but the broken ones are quite common with Saab, (or at least not uncommon).
