There's an aerosol spray called "niteshades" available at my local riceboy speedshop which I used for the taillights and front corners of my car. I was able to do the entire car with one can.
If you decide to go with it, apply multiple light coats and make sure that you don't make the lenses too dark. I used 3 very light coats, and with the lenses off the car they didn't look very dark at all- but on the car they do. If you make them too dark you'll be a road hazard because nobody will see your signal lights. I'd recommend cleaning the reflectors behind the lenses and getting them re-chromed or at least painting them gloss white in order to maximize visibility when you need it.
