So I'm on my way to work yesterday morning when this all started, 40km commute 1/2 city 1/2 highway, and its cold out -18C. Car is 87 900T
1) My check engine light comes on about 5k from work.
2) Limp home after work. AMM element broken.
3) Switch AMM out of 87SPG project becoming parts car.
It looks like somebody has been in this AMM. The black cover is on backwards, but the car it came out of ran fine.
4) CE light goes out. Car drives/boosts normally but idles like crap
Next day (today) -18C again!
1) Drive to work, car runs fine but still not idling properly (black exhaust)
2) Start car after work, idles like its running on 2cyl, so I let it warm up for 10-15min.
3) SMOKE!!! Turn car off, something is melting!!
4) After the smoke clears I try to move the car inside to have a look at things. It was a process of holding the rpms at 3500 and letting the clutch slip. Less than 5min of barely running
5) Look under car, cat is glowing red!
6) Figuring the cat is clogged I cut it off. Its not.
7) Try to start the car, but fuel pump isn't working now.
So...
I have obviously fried some wiring in the harness over the cat, but what would cause the cat to heat up like that? The second AMM was not causing any problems in the SPG which I was driving in the summer. Why the black exhaust? Why would it run/boost normaly but not idle? Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks
