Martin is referring to a clicking trip odometer, sometimes they get stuck and need to be reset. the button is a shaft sticking out of the instrument cluster. BTW never push trip reset while moving or you will eventually break you trip odometer.
Your problem is probably a dry speedo cable. Remove the left speaker and look down through the windshield and you will see the speedo cable plugging into the back of the speedo.
Reach into the hole and unhook the metal snap that holds the cable and pull out the cable. Squirt some oil down the cable and you should be all set. There are special lubricants for speedo cables like graphite which might be better, but a squirt of oil can oil has alwasy worked for me. Sometimes the drive down at the trans is messed up, but I'll bet the oil will fix your problem in 10 minutes.
