It may well be worth it.

One of the things to be aware of with the '85 model year is that the wiring insulation tends to become very brittle and crumble in high heat areas like the engine compartment. It may or may not be such an issue in Britain, but it's been problematic on this side of the pond.

The weakest part of the car is the transmission. The pinion bearing, which supports the gear that drives the ring gear in the transmission, was great for an 88 Hp car. It's a wee bit undersized for a 165 Hp car, but it will still go for a long time.

With 37k km, I'd be concerned about dry engine seals and other rubber parts under the bonnet that may fail faster than you want them to (engine and transmission seals and the harmonic balancer come to mind). So, be aware that you may get some oil leaks after a fairly short time and need to replace the seals.

I don't know how you de-ice the roads over there, but if the roads are salted, look in the front wheel wells for rust-through around the port that the drive axle runs through. That tends to be a bad spot.

Check the calipers to see whether the bleeder nipples are turnable and check the brake hoses for cracks.

All that said, they are relatively easy and straightforward to work on. And, if you get into a bind in a repair project, this Bulletin Board is a wondervul source of knowledge and repair techniques.
