i heard a while back that the S is a throwback from the old 99's. they had an EMS version that basically amounted to a lesser number of turns of the steering wheel from right wheel lock to left lock. in the early run of 900's, it was shortened to the S, and i believe that was the only difference, at least early on. later int he run, it became a trimp package, and more options were available on the S version than the bast 900's, but less options available than the Turbos.
