I bought the same car five years ago. It had 100,000 on the clock when I bought it. VERY well taken care of, one owner car. I have put 107,000 on it in in five years. Here's what I've had to replace: Top=$2000.00(professionaly installed) (correct German material) Clutch=$300.00(done myself) Alternator=$125.00(done myself)Axles, ball joints, shocks=$400.00(done myself)Heater valve$65.00 and a pain in the ass to change!(done myself)Fuel pump=$200.00(done myself)Radiator=$235.00(done myself)fuel pressure regulator=$50.00(done myself). That is a total of $3400.00 I spent doing most of the jobs myself. You can add 50 to 70% more $$ for labor if these repairs were done at a garage. That would bring the total to approx. %5400.00 in repairs. I paid $9000.00 for the car five years ago. That brings the total to:$14,500 that I've got into my '89 Saab convt. Mind you, I'm a professional bodyman and I've repainted the car, added SPG ground effects and wheels, and keep the car in meticulous shape. The car is still quite impressive to look at, drives like a charm, but I wonder when this car is gonna lose a motor or transmission. Most of these "gremlins that are acting up mechanically have happened in the last year right at the 200,000 mile point. Would I do the same thing all over again if I had to? YES, buying at 100,000 miles, NO, buying at 200,00 miles. GREAT cars, in fact the best car I've ever owned, (read: '73 Vette convt. 80 Vette, '67 Camaro SS/RS convt. 76 Triumph Spitfire convt, ,73 Caddy Eldorado convt.) I had MANY nice cars, but the convt. Saab classic is my favorite car. Keep looking. You're looking at the right style, just the wrong milage. Hope maybe some of my experiences help you make a wiser decision. Best of luck in your hunting...Bob
