Radio Code Instructions

Hi,
I have a 92 saab convertible and I cannot get the radio to show "code" so I can re-code it. Here is what I did:
Car was fixed at mechanic, so I then went to put code in and put wrong code in. It locked up. So I remember that I need to press BAND switch until code appears again. I then reenter code 3 different times and was wrong each time as I am 47 years old and forgetful! So I get my correct code from my saab file, go back and press band but now it will not allow mw to enter code. It stays on last incorrect code.
So I disconnect the battery for 1 hour, go back, hook up car battery and radio has power and It still powers up with old code and I cannot enter correct code. ( ithought it would want to be reset again after losing power)
So I pull out the radio thinking that may do it, but when I put it back in and power on, the old incorrect code is still there and I cannot enter the new code. Pressing the band button for 5 seconds or longer does not allow it to reset.
Does the radio have it's own little security sysytem and it's own little internal battery? Why didin't it allow me to reset after diconnecting power when that happens everyt time I have work done on the car by a mechanic?
Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance, kevin.
