Recently I've been getting a big hooting whine on acceleration. It's not the hooter valve. I checked and replaced it anyway. Turbo compressor spins easily with vrtually no detectable play in my hand. No dark turbo smoke on acceleration. I get good boost, sometimes the hoot/whine just holds it back. Wastegate seems to move easily when spring is disconnected. Shortly after the Hoot arrived third gear started making disturbing clacking noises which I can feel thought he shifter as well as hear. Previously the transmission would only occasionally pop out of second. Engine oil pressure is good.
So what's my hooting problem? bad turbo or turbo bearing? Do I just need to check a 3rd time for leaking intake plumbing under boost? Is this the dreaded pinion whine just louder than I expected? All suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Spare transmission is being refreshed for the third gear issue but I gotta get rid of that hooty whine so I can enjoy boostiness again.
Thanks again,
Wes
