If the motors are getting rusty => Posted by IrieTom [Email] (#1032) [Profile/Gallery] (more from IrieTom) on Thu, 27 Mar 2003 11:20:30 In Reply to: Re: Power window weirdness part 2, John R, Thu, 27 Mar 2003 10:20:57 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I've been able to revive stuck motors by working wd-40 or PB-Blast into the main gear and forcing the gear to turn with a big pair of pliers while applying 12v to the motor. I did it with the motor removed from the door, but still plugged into the wiring harness. I had a helper work the switch while I cranked on the motor. Once the motor can spin under its own power, keep hosing it down with solvent until the drips aren't rusty any more. Be careful- the motor will heat up. I usually need to take a break (or start working on the other side for a while) to let it cool off.
After flushing the rust out, I let the motor dry out and then lube it with white lithium grease. This operation seems to give the motors another 3 years or so before the procedure needs to be repeated.
