Sears.... Posted by Walt [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Digital Multimeter, BruceV, Sat, 29 Mar 2003 06:38:25 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Bruce,
I just picked one up at Sears Hardware a few weeks ago....Model 3482139, It was on sale for $17.99, reg $29.99. A nice compact meter, with some great extra features usually not found at this price...autoranging, data hold, temperature, capacitor check and frequency/duty cycle.
Auto ranging is a convience feature...it automaticly moves the decimal point of your measurement. Without it, a meter may always display a voltage reading in say, millivolts...then you have to push the 'range' button several times to display voltage in the proper range; 0.-.99, 0-10, 0-100, etc.
Duty cycle is helpful to check various engine functions- especially on fuel systems. Maybe someone can expand on this??
Temperature measurement requires an additional probe...just your standard industrial type K thermocouple. Doesn't cost much.
I haven't used it much (had it two weeks), but it seems like a nice unit.
For a full description of meters from Sears, goto Sears.com, then enter 'multimeter' in the search bar.
You could also look for a more automotive-specific meter. I have an 'Actron' brand which has additional features like frequency, dwell, and tachometer. Cost was about $120.
