Stalled on my way home from work!!

Hey all-
1990 SPG, 178,000 miles... several mods, including 3 bar fpr, swedish dynamics red series apc, and fuel ecu...to name a few.
well, i was enjoying my favorite strip of highway on my way home from work... really lettin loose and getting up to the 23 psi range (not sustained however... working with gary at swedish dynamics to curtail the knock at high rpm's... possibly fuel related... but that's a different story). Nearing the end of my favorite strip of road, i notice a somewhat odd smell... sort of like burning oil or transmission fluid?? just not your everyday smell. nothing overpowering, but noticable. next thing i know after coasting into the red light is that the rpm's are at 0! car stalled. battery light and oil light went on...fortunately it started right back up since i was at a busy intersection. i babied it the rest of the way home. after getting home, i checked the oil level... that was fine, i just changed it 1600 miles ago... transmission fluid fine... just changed that even more recently.
i have a feeling that something went wrong because of the fact that i was driving under pretty high boost and the sudden deceleration is when the stall occurred. does the engine have a shut off feature, where if you are running it hot, it shuts off to save itself?
any idea's of what i should be looking for here or what the cause of the stall may be? anyone have this similar problem? the car's ran just fine up to that point.
Thanks!!
Tom
