The throws are decreased by about 50% and the action is very tight.
The kit comes with an instruction sheet that's good, but just so you know what it entails I'll summarize:
My shift knob pulled right off. Pull off the bottom of the bellows and turn it inside-out to get it out of the way. Take out the two screws that hold down the plastic piece of the console that surrounds the shifter and ignition key. Take out 3 screws around the plate that holds in the shifter. It pulls right out.
You need to unscrew the long skinny rod that controls the reverse lockout and install it in the new short shifter. Grease up moving parts and install the new shifter just like the old one except you also put in a spacer.
The whole thing would have taken me 20 minutes but I spent a lot of time adjusting the length of the long rod inside the shaft. It's length is adjusted by screwing it in or out. It controls how far the latch stud protrudes from the bottom. If it's too short you'll have a real hard time getting into gear, especially 5th.
