well...here is the scoop:
A few days back, I was driving and experienced some spuddering, lasted for about 1 second, happened twice on a 30 minute drive, as if it was getting starved for fuel for a second or so, the came right out of it, before I parked it that day, I stopped at a gas station, and filled her up, (so it has a full tank), then parked it. The next day I went to take a spin and it wouldn't fire, just turned over...I towed it into my garage to further inspect. I figured this was as good of a time as any to change the plugs and fuel filter, so I did, I also installed a new battery that I bought a few weeks before, non of these things aided....it still just turned over, nice and fast...just wouldn't start up, I checked the plugs for fire....all 4 cyl. are getting spark, HOWEVER there is no fuel getting to them, plugs were dry as a bone after I turned the engine over a bunch of times. Also...for some reason, the gas gauge reads empty...even though it's full, the day I parked it, it had been working fine, it seemed to happen the next day when it wouldn't start...I dont the anatomy of the fuel tank/pump/etc. so I dont know if the gauge not working has anything to do with the fact that the engine isnt getting gas, but Im geussing it must. My 1985 SPG did the same thing the day the fuel pump went (sputtered, except it let me stranded on the side of the road, 40 miles frim home)....at least I made it home this time. Im guessing it's the fuel pump thats not working on my '88 SPG now.
I hope you can get something out of this information, I would really appreciate it, I am stuck with the only option of repairing this problem on my own because the car recently had air flow bumpers installed...and there is absolutely NO way to tow it to a garage, withought destroying them.
TIA!

PS: I noticed shortly after that it was indeed the "pre pump" and not the entire pump itself, I called SAS and asked if they supply OEM fuel pumps...the price was $350.00, they even reccomended that I look elsewhere due to the high price, I found that Swedish Dynamics offers a high performance Bosch pump for $299, and it said it can be used as a direct replacement.
