Today I took apart my center console to adjust the parking brake....emergency brake...hand brake...what ever you'd like to call it. It worked fine when I bought the car four or so years ago. Since then I have changed the braked, but that was about three years ago. I never re-adjusted the little screw that I was saposed to after changing the brakes, but it had still worked. So after changing the brakes it worked good...not perfect like before...but very nicely. about a year and a half ago I had taken apart the center console to get some dirt and crumbs out of my ignition, and tried to adjust the cable. Near the base of the e-brake handle, there are two screws with nuts on either side of the base that I can adjust. I'm not sure if that was what I was saposed to do. Ever since then, the brake pulled up all the way with very little resistance, and just worked when pulled all the way up, and in reverse. So today I took it apart to undo what I had done. I adjusted the same screws...tightened them down, so now I can't pull it up after about four clicks. It still doesn't feel like there is the proper type of tension though. It is grabing a little, but not enough. Since the brake worked for a good year and more after I changed the brakes and rotors, and it only stopped working after I adjusted things on the inside, would it make sense that I could fix it form the inside? Am I not adjusting the right part? The only other nuts I see attached to the cable look hard to get to, like I would have to take out the ignition switch. Anyone with any ideas let me know what you think. It just seems to me that if I "broke" it from the inside, I should be able to re-adjust it and "fix" it form the inside.... just need advise on what I'm saposed to be adjusting. By the way its an '86 900 base. - Thanks!
