clutch/electrical system mystery (86 900t) any insight?

My question is—what, if any, is the relation between the electrical system and the clutch system? Here is why: a year ago, my alternator grounding wire was disconnected by someone as they changed my oil filter (the last time I let someone change my oil for me), and of course my battery eventually gave out and would not take a jump. At the same time I was struggling to figure out the electrical situation, suddenly my clutch was shot- little resistance and couldn’t get it into gear. It felt like the whole car was giving up on me….But then I replaced the battery and sort of forced it into gear and started down the road and the clutch started normalizing a bit, although not as strong as before. I proceeded to run that battery down too before concluding it was in fact the alternator…
After fixing the wiring problem and bleeding the clutch, things were basically back to normal again.
Fast forward a year- now the person who is caring for my car (I am overseas at the moment)unfortunately left the ignition switch on, drained the battery, and now cannot get the car in gear at all, even after recharging the battery. This doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me, but I am no mechanic…. I am hoping that I wont have to replace the clutch. I had driven several thousand miles since the last episode with no problems, so I feel like it has to be again something with the electrical system. Why would the transmission act this way? Any insight on this will be greatly appreciated- Thanks. Matt
