How to replace a shift coupler?

Had the classic case of suddenly loosing all gears. Managed to get it in 3rd and nurse it home. This morning looked at the shift shaft and the rubber coupler completely separated. Managed to remove the 4 10mm nuts but have trouble getting it out. So I figured I needed to take the whole link out and removed the 8mm nut from the shaft pin but the pin did not come out either. Then I have a real hard time getting to the 13 mm shift rod clamp bolt. So I'm stuck!
I went through the archives but did not see any specific instructions how to remove it. I have the impression that I should be able to remove the rubber without messing up the shifter adjustment.
I definitely is an oily mess down there. So I can understand why it happened. I guess trying to find the oil or power steeting fluid leak will be the next job...
Thanks in advance, Harold
