If they won't follow Saab/Bentley procedures, find another shop. When your car developes problems 20,000 miles from now, who is going to pay for it....them or you? I wonder how much money the shop has made from Saab valve jobs???

I would also talk to the service manager of the Saab dealer...inform him of your discussion, and also ask if there have been any long-term failures resulting from the machine shops valve jobs. Maybe they should find a new machine shop as well...

When I initially go to a new shop (machine shop or otherwise), I often 'play dumb'....If they try to BS me, or obviously don't know what they're talking about, I go elsewhere.
But I also ask for their recommendations...and at least listen. Don't be so closed-minded to think that your way is the (only) right way, and any other ideas are wrong...You'll never learn anything with that approach. Collect all available information, and then make a decision. You seem to have done that (listened, considered, decided), and I agree you should take your heads elsewhere.
On the other hand, maybe the arrogant SOaB at the machine shop actually learned something from you about Saab valves...but was too neanderthal to admit it!
It's so hard to find good help these days....
