Hi folks, thought I'd add a postscript on replacing a fuel line checkvalve... My Saab is a '90 900 TC, finally ready for the season!! And a pic with my 'tool' to install that darn valve.
why I had to replace? After replacing the pump two summers ago, finally got around to adding back the checkvalve that was apparnetly in the pump itself. I wish I knew about the checkvalve when I did the original pump job. Alas, a complete newbie at the time.
first, after all that work, it turns out the new check valve is slightly larger than the old. I'd guess a mm or so, but enough to cause me to botch installing it on the old fuel line. So be careful, as that old hose will not want to slide on the new valve. mine did not.
Soooo, I replaced the entire line with flexible fuel pressure hose. Had to drop the tank, and struggle to mount the new, thicker hose in the old snaps that held the oem nylon hose. Tie wraps helped there.
All in all, not a hard job once I was resolved to drop the tank. I used the fuel pump and a length of hose to drain the full tank into, and it was down, hose replaced, and back up in 90 minutes. It was still a Bi@#$%#$ getting the hose on the check valve, but with my cool little tool, it worked it's way on. Critical was the aligning/compressing rods that kept constant pressure. here's a link to a pic of my tool...

Thanks for the supportive posts. I think I'll go for a drive! nice day for a drive in a ragtop... Joe
I do have one remaining question. Should the fuel pump run 100% of the time? mine does. (Bad FPR?)
