I have a problem with my auto transmission in my '87 900S and am hoping someone has come across this problem before and have a solution. Some background first.

After having the transmission flushed and serviced at 113K miles it began having a problem going into reverse, and refusing to go into 3rd until the fluid was warmed. After the fluid warmed up, everything was fine. At 130K miles I had the bands adjusted (they didn't do this at 113K), this didn't seem to help. Well at 145K the final drive went out (Ouch!) so I decided to have a minor rebuild done.

When the case was opened, the rebuilder found no lube in the final drive; he figured that someone removed the plug thinking that it drained the transmission and failed to replace the oil (my fault in not checking). Anyway, the trans guy replaced the clutches, sprag clutch, valve body, and seals. He checked but didn't replace the torque converter.

The problem is that reverse still refuses to engage and 3rd still likes to wait to engage until the trans is warmed up to operating temperature. The guy who rebuilt the trans has no idea what is wrong with it but is willing to help me out. He is 5 hours away so I would like to have an idea what it could be before taking it to him. So HELP!!!!
