there is a pin that goes through the clutch pedal to hold it in place. a common occurrence is that the hole in the pedal through which the pin is placed - over the years is starts getting an oval shape to it. this drops the height of the pedal depending on where the pin is actually resting in the now oval-shaped hole. solutions are to either get a new pedal, or drill a new wider hole and get a wider pin as well. this in my opinion is the real problem. not the master clutch cylinder or anything like that.
