First off idle should be 850 rpm. You might have a vacuum leak, so check all the hoses and connections. Make sure your BPV(hooter valve) down near the turbo holds vacuum by sucking on the hose to it.
When the car is idling give the AIC(Auto idle control valve near thermostat) a sharp whack with a screwdriver. If the idle settles down, chances are you need a new AIC. You might get some more life out of it by cleaning with carb spray and finishing with WD-40. While you're at it clean out the throttle body and butterfly with carb spray and a tooth brush. Make sure you get rid of any gunk build up where the butterfly contacts the throttle bore.
Check that your throttle postition switch clicks just off idle and that there is continuity between pins 1 and 2 at idle.
