82T - Just finished replacing my in-good-condition brass/copper radiator with an alum/plastic pulled from a scrapped 87. I wanted to find out if there would be any difference at all between the two in terms of cooling. The all metal one was pulled from a mid 80's car last year. I needed one at the time and was pleased to find that one, which was in very good condition and I suspect it was a (then) recent replacement. After the install and a refill with fresh coolant, I let the engine run until the fan kicked on. The radiator came with a 92c fan switch, which is coupled with a 82c thermostat in good working order. The previous radiator had a 82c fan switch, and as has been noted on here and elsewhere, the fan would often run. While I liked the idea of keeping my engine as cool as possible (it often reaches 100 where I live), I reasoned that if the new radiator is indeed more efficient, then this setup will work fine. The surprise was how long it took for the radiator fan to kick on. I made sure to watch the two engine temp guages (one is the standard dash guage and another an above dash mounted VDO dial guage) to make sure it didn't pass a danger point in the event it didn't kick on. For the longest time it just hovered around a temp just under the limit for the fan switch to kick on - that 195F range. Prior to the rad swap the temp would climb much quicker up to and past that point. I consider that a very good first test.
