I showed a little love to the oldest one in the fleet by R&Ring the clutch master on the '89 900T today. It had been increasingly acting up, being fine when cold but after my 30mi ride to work it would show NO resistance in the pedal for little less than half of its travel. Rather than tempt fate (the master-to-slave blew a few months back, forcing a tow. First time I've had to tow one of my Saabs due to a breakdown..) I picked up a new one for $78.

It's not a bad job, I just moved the coolant tank out of the way and loosened the alt. (I didn't need to remove any belts.) I would image this job would be a bit tougher on those with ABS. I didn't remove the knee bolster, just pulled out the drivers seat to make room.

Everything went fine until I started to bleed the clutch (I have a Motive pressure bleeder.) The rubber seal on the cap apparently went AWOL. Unfortunately, I didn't realize this until after I had pumped up the pressure, and subsequently had a nice big puddle of brake fluid on the garage floor... I ended up borrowing the seal from the reservoir cap.

I took the '99 CV to the dealer yesterday to look at a few things before the warranty runs out. I pointed out a small wear spot appearing on the top, right near the rear window. I wasn't really expecting them to do much, maybe relocate the clip the was causing the chafing. The service advisor said they would probably replace the top, too. I was surprised, and of course I didn't complain. He was also nice by stating that if I say the new remote I got was INOP, rather than stating that I lost the original and this is the replacement, I would save the $ for programming. Gave me a loan car, too.

So far, the dealer here in Dallas seems to be doing the right things. (Sewell) I had always avoided the previous dealer (Bankston) due to their terrible reputation, and I've actually heard good things about this new one. Of course, I've never had a reason to use one before, as none of my cars have ever been covered by a warranty, 'til now :-)
