I have some experience (I am working on shipping a SAAB from Texas to New York right now). I placed an order with a company, and paid a deposit, their price was good. When I called to confirm their phones were disconected, and now their web-site is gone! Be careful!
I have now found an outfit shipvehicles.com who will put your job out for bids and has histories and past cutomer satisfaction ratings. I will post if this works out well. They charge $20 for hooking you up with the shipper, not bad if this all works out well.
The big catch with all this seems to be getting a straight story on pick up date, they are all happy to tell you they will pick up on a given date. My experience iss that this tend to be lies. I have yet to figure out a way to get this part of it sorted out. I also think that you will pay a few more dollars for a reputable company ($100-150 extra), I have decided that it is woth it.
Try Dependable Auto Shippers, they are the company recomended by E-bay, for a quote. Expect to pay a $200-300 less then they offer for a decent company. For example on the Texas/NY move: $1,000 DAS, $700 Fly-by-night, $840 through shipvehicles.com. Anyways that is my two cents worth(and worth every penny of it).
