funny facia story

so I get my hands on a wood grain dash facia and decide "Heck, I can do this job". I'm in my drvwy, have the old one out and on the ground, switches all over the place, wires hanging around, and blood spewing from small cuts on my fingers.
I hear a crash, and as I raise my head, an SUV comes screaming to a halt about 6 feet from me. Seems he blew a stop sign and got hit by a towtruck!
Cops show up, see the blood on my hands and shirt and the bits and pieces all over the ground near my car, and ask if I'm ok. I guess it looked like I was in the accident.
Got the facia back on and lo and behold, no heat. Opened it up again next day and discover the disconnected heat control rod. Reattach and all's well. I think. Rains, so I use the defroster. No go. Seems only output from air distribution knob is side vents and floor. BB says vacuum. Search like mad, can't find any disconnected hoses.
Today, driving around at lunch, I see a small indie Saab ship 4 blocks from my office in LIC. Go in to talk to owner about hourly rate, saab in general, and tell him my story.
He opens hood and immed. finds the disconnected main vacuum hose, plugs it in and says have a nice day. Everything works! I'm a happy Saaber today.
Let's see what tomorrow brings.
