Can you repair leaking convertible pistons?

I'm slowly losing fluid from my convertible reservoir. I filled it last fall and it's again down. I'm guessing it's leaking from the pistons that put the top up and down. I swear I read somewhere that you can just replace the seals or O-rings or whatever and fix the leaking. I only find the whole replacement metal pistons for sale for like $175 each - ouch! Can this be done and if so where would I find the seals I need to repair?
This is an '88 Saab 900T Convertible by the way.
Thanks.
