Guide For Restoring Front End of '88 convertible Posted by Frank [Email] (#2509) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Frank) on Sun, 11 May 2003 15:06:17 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Last November I was forced into an accident while driving my '88 SAAB convertible. Damage was limited to the radiator and its support, the light headlight assembly and right fender.
My neighbor restores British cars, so we decided to take everything off the front end; clean it up and repaint the body parts and bumper parts.
Trouble is, it's been 4 months since I took everything off the front end -- and I do mean everything from the radiator support down to and including the transmission radiators (?) found below the bumper and sorta built into the lower air dam.
Fortunately, I bagged major pieces and components to make restoration easier.
Most of it is pretty straightforward. I seem to get confused around the turbo inner cooler stuff on the driver's side.
Before I get too far into this, I was wondering if there were pictures or directions posted somewhere I could use to guide me through the process.
They would be much appreciated.
P.S. I took off all the bumper and body side molding parts to get at the
original finish. I was amazed at how good the condition of the paint was overall. With my neighbor's skill in matching paints, the car color and finish will look great. I will either clean up and refinish the lower body molding along with the bumper parts or I will replace it with something newer. Trouble is, the old stuff is still on good shape...
just needs new adhesive.
Thanks again
