Since you didn't have a complete failure of pinion- Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Even more tranny rebuild questions...!, Jeff H, Sun, 11 May 2003 21:57:46 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
bearings, I wouldn't replace more bearings than the rear pinion ones, and maybe the small needle bearing on on intermediate shaft. All others are gonna last the life of car.
All depending on how worn the second gear and sleeve are, I would maybe put the money on new gear and sleeve instead. But it's impossible to say for sure without looking at them and compare to my "brain library".
You said earlier that shifting from second to third was difficult. Or did you mean from third to second? As you can see now, depending on how you phrase the question it's two different sleeves that could be the culprit, and the crunching second gear is well known fact and not much to do about more than replace gear and sleeve and hope for the best.
Did you find the gasket kit and pinion bearings? Don't buy gaskets one by one, it's more costly that way. Gasket kit P/N 7496003 $113.00
