I think you are going have major issues finding out what pin on the Clarion match AV left and right- 1st. Then I would question quality of the input. I believe the iPod pushes 100mW and that good enough for a signal. Not sure what the Clarion's internal would make it sound like.
I think that Panasonic may be the way to go- at least for the short term. It probably has a input jack of some kind. My Pioneer has an "IP-Bus" input- of course made by Pioneer ($35). I got this cable- the other end is your standard L/R AV jack. I output from my Archos player along a 1.5MM jack- split to L/R AV and into this cable.
Z- out the treble, bass and loudness- minimal vol and let the head do the work. Sounds great!
I listened to a FM version of this set up- it sounded like... well... FM- highs and lows were gone! Those FM transmitters can be pricey too.
