Both said the paint need to be stripped off to bare metal before new paint.
One said it'd probably last years before cracks go down to the metal and it starts rusting though.
Apparently, it's from extreme hot/cold cycles, turbo prob. contributing to it but sun on flat surfaces, hood->roof->trunk, is the usual progression.
Have to admit though, looked at a lot of hoods lately on cars 5 years older than mine even and mine's prob. the worst. Maybe black's more prone to it.
