It could possibly cause a no-start condition if it indicates a significantly higher airflow to the ECU than is actually going there. A test would be to unplug it (once you have dry plugs)
I'll bet that all of the plugs are wet.
I had a similar situation with my '88 900S a few years ago. It turned out that the plugs were just plain ol' bad.
Here's something to try: Either get new plugs or dry out the old plugs on a cookie sheet in the oven on low (with your wife's permission, of course. Car parts aren't always welcome in the oven.) Check the gaps on general principles.
With the plugs out, take out the fuel pump fuse.
Crank the car for 15 or 20 seconds and let it rest for 30 seconds a few times to ventilate out some of the raw gas.
Put the plugs in again, crank it to see if it fires from residual gas.
Replace the fuel pump fuse, crank it and see what happens.
If it repeats the same old scenario and the plugs are wet again, I'd start to consider Fuel Pressure Regulator failure as a possibility.
if it's damp where you are or there's a lot of underhood condensation, the spark plug wires might be bad (I don't remember whether you said that you had changed them or not.)
