hello:
89 spg failed to start after running fine and being parked overnight. Car will start and run well if I manually close and hold the contacts for the fuel pump relay. I suspect a bad ignition control module, but am hesitant to buy one without confirmation first (dealer wants 330, non-oem part is 270). Here's the sypmtoms and test results per bentley and this board's archives
-- no tach bounce when trying to start (though tach works when the car is running)
-- power to ign control module
-- 5 volts dc present across coil terminals 1 and 15 for ~.5 seconds after turning on the ignition (not the 2 - 3 bentley suggests)
-- no voltage to pin one of the engine control module (should be 2 -3 vac)
-- power to hall-effect sensor in coil
-- some oil apparent in distributor cap. No change after cleaning.
-- no apparent bad grounds, no change after cleaning ground wires under radator and near fuel rail.
-- very occasional hard starting/poor idle when engine is hot (prior to this, of course).
Anything else I should check?
