Not exactly related, but I had a bearing start making noise on the front left axle of a chevy truck I used to own. I let it go just a "little" to long and it came apart on me on the way home. Had to haved it towed. I found, on disassembly, that the bearing got so hot it welded itself to the axle. Replacing that axle in the dead of winter, in the driveway, with a tarp over the fender as a result...
You start hearing noise, act fast.
