Glazed rotors and pads will have a very shiny polished appearance. The worst thing about glazed rotors that I have experienced is lack of braking in the rain until the water gets cleared off the rotors. The 1/2 second that this takes can be very frightening when someone slams their brakes on in front of you in the rain.
While I think that glazing can be caused by heat and long continuous braking, I think it is most often caused by failure to replace rotors or at least sand them prior to new pads. A trick to deglaze rotors is to slip a piece of emery cloth between the old pads and rotor faces and spin the rotors(by hand or driven by the engine in gear. This puts a fresh surface on the rotor. Then put in the new pads. Glazed pads...I'd pitch'em
