There are three makes of cars that, at 14 yrs of age, can still make reasonable very-long-distance commuters: Honda, Toyota, Nissan. Virtually everything else, US or foreign, will consume vast sums of $$$ in continual repairs and breakdowns, in my opinion. That is a looong commmute - is it in extreme heat or cold too? Even worse. Second problem: the crappy rear vision of 900 cvt, top up, makes it One Very Dangerous Car for lane changes in heavy traffic. I bought the 3-door for that reason.
I agree with others: IF the car is in top shape, IF the car is good price, IF hubby is a good weekend mechanic, and IF your fambly is prepared to spend the $$$ to keep the thing running - By all means, Go for It!
If not, best spend some loot for a recent Civic, Focus, or even a Mini for that commute. Then, get the Saab cvt just for weekend FUN.
