I just replaced my cat with a max flo cat, 1987 900T, 16 5/8 (or 7/8) long, MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHETHER IT'S 15INCHES OR THE LONG ONE before you buy. 250K miles (ok, 258 on the clock but itza long story).

Nothing wrong with performance on my old one, boost almost to the end of the red with a GP6 APC. My MD emissions test were failed HC, pass CO (still high), and fail NOX. I replaced the cat and ALL emissions went down to less than 10% of the specified limits...the CO went WAY down.

You'll need a cat, a front gasket/seal, a rear seal, and most likely a downpipe...they rot out at the bottom inside the flange. Apparently the downpipe is a double walled construction that goes single wall about a 1/2" from the flanges. You'll also need eight new nuts and bolts for the front and rear flanges on the cat.

You remove the bracket at the transmission that holds the downpipe up, remove the three nuts at the turbocharger elbow that hold the downpipe on the turbo, dropping the pipe/converter assembly enough to get to the bolts/nuts on the converter. Spin them off with an impact wrench if you've got one and can get a wrench on them, if not, use a 1/8" cutoff wheel on a grinder ($20 for the grinder at Harbor Freight Tools).

It's kind of tricky getting the whole thing aligned right...you have to kind of put everything together loosely and then install the bracket to the transmission which holds up the downpipe. Then tighten the downpipe to the turbo and then the eight bolts for the converter. I've seen a lot of 900T's with slightly tilted tailpipes (rather than horizontal)...the only way to correct this (and a rotated converter) is to release the clamp on the tailpipe to muffler and rotate the pipe, same deal with the intermediate pipe at the muffler. The cat will rotate wrt the downpipe, not the intermediated pipe. I just left my cat rotated about 20 degrees rather than try to get the intermediate pipe to rotate at the muffler connection after rusting in place for several years.
