The windshield on my '91 900 needs to be replaced. The tech that came to replace the windshield today brought a 9000 windshield and a 9000 window gasket. The gasket MUST be replaced as the old one has torn at the top and was calked to prevent further leakage till replacement.
Questions are:
I told them to get OEM glass from the dealer, (which the 9k was) and a new OEM gasket from them as well. The gasket that they had with them was from a US aftermarket manufactuer. Does OEM parts (glass and gasket) matter in this case? Are they had of a higher quality manterial or less prone to breakage and chipage?
Secondly, to replace the gasket the dash and headlinner would need to be removed in order to mount the rubber tabs for the gasket. The tech said that he could just cut the old ones off the existing gasket, and off the new gasket, and it would not matter at all if they were attached. This seems like taking a nice shortcut to what needs to be done. How important are the tabs to be installed behind?
Thanks for reading all this! What would you do and what are tour opinions?
