weird noise when changing the cabin air output

I have an 88 900s 16 valve and it makes a weird noise after letting on the off the gas. It is a crescendoing 'waaaaaa' it starts loud and just dies off and lasts about a second. If i have the output set to defrost it rarely does this. If I have it set to the 0 though it is almost everytime I let of the gas. I haven't tried all the settings but on a couple of the other settings I still notice that it is more frequent than defrost setting.
Now I'm trying to make a connection with a vacuum leak because I have a hunting idle which is inconsistent, not in terms of the hunting idle, but in that sometimes it hunts sometimes it's fine regardless of the temperature, so far I haven't noticed anything cause and effect relationships. So do you guys think it is a vacuum leak?
