All I've ever needed was a regular wrench on the nut. To keep the pulley from spinning, I take a allen wrench and drop it in through any one of the air holes on the face of the alternator, and use that to jam the fins on the pulley. If I'm in a particularly kind mood, I'll drop some penetrating oil on the nut and let it sit first.
