Along with Vladimir's good comments, if the transmission from the '92 is from a Turbo, the primary chain gear ratio will be the just about the same as your '85 900T. If it's from a N/A car (and this goes for just about any year), you may end up running higher RPMs at highway speed than with one from a Turbo. Of course, that's much better than not being able to drive at all.
IIRC, you should just be able to disable the external centering springs on your shifter assembly for the '88 and '92 transmissions.
I believe that the '83 will require that you get the whole shifter assembly, or at least the rear shifter rod, because the shifter rod on the transmission is a different length.
