and each will dictate how cold the air is that comes out of the vents.
First do a search like F.Davalos mentioned. Good reading.
Bottom line: You need to replace the refrigerant AND the oil. R12 oil and R134a oil are not designed to be mixed. Can't prove it, but it sounds reasonable. Having said that:
1. replace hoses set with new
2. replace expansion valve (orfice)
3. replace dryer
4. clean out oil in compressor, replace o-rings
5. reassemble, add appropriate amount of oil to each component
6. pull vacuum (optional)
7. add R134a, 25-35psi low side, new a/c belt?
I've got a good as 40deg differential at a steady 3000rpm(ie below 50F at vent.) DIY price <$150.
