wobbly feeling

Okay, so yesterday I fired up the car again, after a hasty rebuild - fukt
rings. After the initial running in, I parked it. Drove it again today
after changing the oil.
The wobbly feeling is prominent about 2500-3500rpm, acceleration or
deceleration. I can feel it the worst in 3rd, but can also feel it in the
other gears. The entire car shakes noticeably, and the shifter goes a bit
nuts too.
I pulled the wheels off and put them back on again to be sure they were on
square. Then I noticed that one drive axle nut was not threaded on as much
as the other, even though both were torqued properly. I took that nut off
and put it on back again and now both are equally threaded on. But a test
drive showed the wobble is still there.
I also checked all of the engine mounts. All are on square and tight.
Any ideas?
