If you're starting at say 3.5, it seems the first turn gives less that 0.5 psi, but gets to about 0.5 per turn when you get to 5 psi.
With the new turbo, did you get a new wastegate controller? If so, I think your spring should be good for now. lms's approach is interesting, but I think his exceptional performance is due to the 8.9 base boost and he chose to get to that level with spring enhancement rather than rod shortening.
I too have read the posts about wastegate rod length, and I'm not sure the length of the rod makes all that much difference. The pressure diaphram is basically working against the spring and has to move very little to bleed boost. Further, it moves the same distance regardless of rod length. Shortening the rod just increases spring tension to compensate for wear. Maybe I'm missing something, not a big deal.
