You may remember problems I had with the car missing @ certain rpms last year. Finally, my local shop found loose terminal connections @ the coil, which fixed the problem for several months. It's back:
SYMPTOMS
Engine misses @ 2500-3000 rpms only, independent of load (though seems to be more obvious @ very light throttle). Miss occurs independent of ambient temperature. Happens after car has been warm. Sometimes is very subtle; other times the car bucks strongly. Last night, the Check Engine came on after a stumble, stayed on for ~5 seconds, then went off.
STEPS TAKEN THUS FAR
-Checked coil terminals - they are still tight, clean.
-Pulled CE codes last night - NOTHING stored.
-Replaced plugs (NGK), wires (Bougicord), cap/rotor (Bosch)
-Replaced distributor
-Replaced ignition switch
-Re-crimped ignition switch wiring terminals; they're all tight
-Tested coil (OK), Hall Sensor wiring (OK)
-Wiggled Hall Sensor wiring while running car
-Swapped out Ignition Control Module w/known-good unit
-Swapped out AMM w/known-good unit
-Replaced both fuel pumps and fuel filter
-Cleaned injectors (professionally done) & wiggled injector harness while running car
-Thoroughly cleaned all underhood ground points & positive distribution block as well as put dielectric grease on ignition componenents' connectors.
-Tested system and fuel pump relays (both pull down w/voltage)
The only other thing that's (possibly) worth mentioning is that the car idles high @ 1000+ on start-up each morning. Idle returns to normal after ~30 seconds. Presumably, however, this is just the beginning of an AMM going downhill?? Also note that the tach needle does not drop when the car misses.
What confuses is me is that the problem occurs only at 2500-3000; why not @ other revs, too? Why not @ high load? I'm thinking injectors @ this point unless someone else has another idea??
thx
