Folks have posted about seeking decent cupholders and armrests for their classic 900. I, too, find a center armrest helpful on long travels. And cupholders.....well, it's right unAmerican to go without them these days.

My SPG solution: For cupholders, I found that mounting the right kind of chainstore basket-style holder on the door panels far forward, both right and left, worked very well. These super inexpensive soft crushable plastic baskets are one piece, fit all size containers, usually matte black (but can be resprayed to match), and are meant to hook over and into the side window slots. I simply sawed off the hook end, and mounted them flush on the fabric door insert with a trim screw and some clear sealant/adhesive. Looks quite original, and access is great without obstructing any controls.

For a center armrest, one needs only three pieces of 1/2" plywood, some foam, and some matching vinyl or fabric scrap. The horizontal surface is builtup with the foam and vinyl covering, after securing it to the pair of vertical supports, which then stand on the rear console flanges each side of the rear ashtray. One can make this as basic or as elaborate as one wishes, ie; use aluminum or plastic or titanium, etc. If you size the horizontal armrest to clear the seatbelts, you will still have enough support for the upper forearm. What height? Lay a string across the cabin between door armrests and you will have your ideal height.

For a more factory-finished appearance, scrounge your local salvage yard for console covers/hatches from various other cars. I discovered that the console door/armrest on my '90 Nissan 300ZX is absolutely perfect. I will search for one next week online. They come in at least gray and tan fabrics, maybe more.

Enjoy!
