In my experience, the usual leak points are
...crack in the tank
...loose connection to the tank
...loose connection on large hose where it connects to the pump
...bad seals on the PS pump.
The first three items are quick/easy fixes, though getting at the hose connection on the pump can be a messy job because of all the crud from the leak.
If the pump is leaking, the fix is to replace/rebuild the pump. Rebuilding is by far the cheapest and involves an O-ring, seal, and if needed, a bearing (less than ~$10 for parts). You'll need a machine shop to remove the pulley, which is a press-fit on the shaft.
The pump can be removed without pulling the engine, but it is not a fun job:
...clean the area as well as you can (never well enough)
...loosen pump bracket bolts and remove belt
...Disconnect rubber hose from the pump (can be done from below)When I replaced the pump on my '87 a few days ago, I disconnected the metal fluid line from the pump, but am not certain that is essential
...Separate the metal fluid lines near the motor mount.
...Remove bracket bolts (one from below, others from above)
...support engine from below and remove the upper motor mount bracket (not essential, but provides more room to work).
...Jigger the pump and mounting bracket into a position where you can remove the three bolts that hold the two together (royal PITA)
...maneuver the pump and pull it out.
