Charlie, If your confused about the information Or "dis-information" your reading, you should be. AC conversions have been an on-going process, with changes along the way. Once conversion oils were introduced to the scene, Flushing systems became completely a waste of time and money. Conversion oils also make replacing older O-rings that haven't failed also a waste of time.People want to Convert systems today with expensive 10 year old methods. Call any AC shop on this. I've converted about 25 R12 systems, and all are still going strong. There is also R12A options as well, wich I use to top off my R12 systems that I haven't yet converted. Those also are going strong. If you want to try to do it right the first time, get a new AC dryer. That's about it.As I stated in another posting, If this were an American car, I wouldn't even recommend pulling a vacuum. It will, increase the efficiency in any AC system, and is always a good thing, but with the lame Euro AC systems that don't convert as well, it is needed. The benefit of pulling a vac is you may not have to change your expansion valve to a different size to make the system convert well (again, a Euro thing). Saab has the same valve on both systems so no need to worry about that for this car.
