sorry no pics, but I have done this repair. The cable should have fittings on the ends to lock into the mechanism. If the little pieces are missing get a new cable. What often happens is that the small pulley will gradually back off the axle. Sometimes the cable will slip off the pulley and sometimes the pulley comes off too. Anyway, the fix is to push the pulley all the way on and drill a 1/8" hole through the pulley hub and the drive axle. Use a fresh drill bit so you don't bodge the project. Then tap a 1/8" drift pin into the hole to secure the mechanism for another 100 years. There is another name for these drift pins that I can't remember, but they are not solid, so they will compress when you tap them in.
