Hey all,
Well it appears to be one problem after the next with this 1990 SPG... I still love her though ( :
I just replaced the cooling fan, so I started the car, drove about 1 mile, didn't activate the turbo, then parked the car in my driveway (since now the temp gauge was about 1/4 way up) with the hood open, standing on the driver side, waiting for the engine to get hot enough to kick the fans on. Luckily I was watching and not listening with the hood closed, becuase that's when I saw it...
...White smoke coming from the passenger side of the engine bay. Quickly turned off the car. Ran over to the other side. Coolant dripping down onto the exhaust manifold, then immediatly evaporating into white smoke. It seemed as if it was spilling from the valve cover, but I don't know how that would be possible. It was only spilling to the right side, right before the turbo. If I recall correctly it was hitting the 3rd or 4th from left to right. Maybe about one or two drops a second. It wasn't pouring, but it was definatly enough to catch my attention due to all the white smoke, and enough for me to realize something is definatly wrong.
Could anyone give me a hint of what the problem could be?
The headgasket couldn't drip *down* onto the exhaust manifold's top, could it? Where would an obvious problem/coolant leak area be above the ehxuast manifold, on the right side?
Obviously a SAAB shop is going to have the car soon, but I just want to know what the problem could be.
Thanks ( :
Taylor
